Things You Should Know Before Starting Whole30
I’m Doing My First Whole30!
Are you new to this blog? Or you probably haven't been following my posts all these while? You obviously need to read this post from start to end, so that you can have a depth understanding on why I have decided to go with Whole30.
First time I heard about Whole30, it was a year ago from my friend. Honestly, I didn't pay attention to what it is or what this whole30 is capable of doing. My life still goes on as the food blogger, and also food influencer here in Chicago. Whatever I want, I eat. Although, I didn't take exercise very seriously, not until I see myself no longer fitting into my pants.
If you have been following along with my blog and Instagram posts, then you will know that I eat healthy meals regularly, starting with my breakfast. I make smoothie bowl almost every day. Also, the most of my dinner, all from going out and trying new food. A time came that I couldn't have a limit of what I should eat or how much I should try. The main reason for me to start Whole30 so that I can feel the limit again. This limit brought about the idea why I decided to initiate the Whole30, in order for me to feel the real self again.
I first started by purchasing a book on the Whole30, I didn't quite read the book at first. All I did was to check the recipes involved, and the recipes looked so good to me when I checked them. Plus, it is such a simple meal that I can make myself.
Then I started to read the first part of the Book, "It is not hard - Don’t you dare tell us that it hard quitting heroin? Beating cancer is hard? Drinking your coffee black is Not Hard.” - Melissa Hartwig, the Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom. This gives me so much motivation that yes it takes only 30 days to 365 days this year to understand and learn about my body through the food I eat.
This 30 days program which you remove food groups that have been shown to have inflammatory impacts on your body. The idea is completely cut them out from your diet. Let your body heal and reset. After 30 days period, you start to do a re-introduction phase of food groups, one-by-one to understand how they affect your body.
TIPS
Plan out the Whole30 Meal Plan shopping and make a pantry lists. By doing this, you will be able to check the other things that might take your time at home, and then make things easy for your grocery shopping.
MEAL PLAN
In each meal that I choose, I always switch thing around to make things more interesting by turning the leftovers to a new menu. For instance, I turned my leftover which was Thai turkey burger into the new menu such as Thai Turkey burger Benedict, and Thai turkey burger salad.
GROCERY SHOPPING
You need to make plans for grocery trip at least once in a week. During the process of making this plan, write down your plans for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Additionally, you can include the plans for snacks during each meal.
PREP WORK
The easiest way is wash, dry, and cut all the vegetables and fruits. Then store in the container, this will make it easy for you to use them whenever you feel hungry.
PORTION SIZES
The idea here is to have maybe three meals that are made of protein as big as your hand, and also a plate full of vegetables. It is such a good way to divide each portion of the food in the container. That will make you a quick breakfast, lunch to go and heat up, and even your dinner a whole lot easier!
Here are the transformations and recipes that I experienced during the Whole30.
